NmRRL Collaborates with Cleveland Clinic on R01 Grant
In collaboration with researchers at the Cleveland Clinic, the NmRRL has received a grant to examine the effectiveness of three types of electrical stimulation on affected hand motor recovery after stroke. The 4 year grant, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will compare the effectiveness of sensory stimulation, electrical contraction of the muscles, and EMG-triggered electrical stimulation. The device to be used is the Neuromove-900.
"This is an exciting project, as it works with one of the most renowned centers in the country for this type of work; the FES Center at Cleveland Clinic. It is also timely, as we have 2 papers in press examining the effectiveness of EMG-triggered stimulation in stroke patients," notes Dr. Steve Page, site PI for this study.
The study is currently recruiting patients who are no more than 12 weeks post stroke. More information on the study is available in the "Ongoing studies" section of this website.
